Hi all,

What a day – Lichfield Rugby Club at its best. Many thanks again for your support in making last Saturday such a success. From the makers, organisers and doer’s, to all the VP’s and guests who created a great atmosphere and then club members and the Lichfield public who supported the matches so well. THANKS !! A great showcase for the club. Well done to the players too who made sure they didn’t disappoint in front of a sizeable crowd of over a thousand.

The Men’s 1st XV got the 5 points they needed. Greg Massey received the Player of the Match Award [sponsored by The Plough at Shenstone]. A cracking game of rugby indeed with the weather playing its’ part too. The 2nd XV put in a really good performance too but lost to top of the table Burton 2’s 28-19. Both our Men’s teams play Longton this Saturday.

The Ladies followed and a 48 – 0 defeat of Richmond clearly demonstrates that the RFU’s crazy decision isn’t based on playing ability and elite performance. Sarah Bonar was the Player of the Match winner.  A Bristol victory [with two England players in their starting line up] over Super League Wasps 48 – 7 meant that Bristol end up on top of the Premiership by one point. So Bristol play at Ashton Gate against Saracens with Lichfield at home to Aylesford [aka Quins] on April 9th at 5pm following the Leicester Tigers A team fixture with Worcester.

On Sunday we hosted, for the RFU !!!!, the Women’s Championship Final between North League winners Waterloo and South winners Thurrock – a high scoring affair ending in a 64 – 30 Waterloo success. And our Ladies Under 18’s are preparing for their cup semi final on  April 9th when the winners of us, Castleford and West Park [St Helens] meet the winners of the Southern semi final in the final at the end of April. So young talent coming through whatever happens.

This weekend sees another home match. This time against Staffordshire rivals Longton who turned round a 32-7 deficit and scored a penalty try in the final minute and a try from the kick off in the last play of the game to win 33 -32. IT IS PAST PLAYERS DAY SO PLEASE ENCOURAGE ANY YOU KNOW TO VISIT THE CLUB [PLEASE PASS ON MY CONTACT TO THEM]. VP’s are welcome to join them downstairs for the pre match meal @ £10 a head  - please book in as usual with Ian Bascombe or myself. 1pm meet and a 3pm kick off.
